This program illustrates the correlations between the mental and physical tools found in jiu-jitsu, and how they can be used outside the mats to help individuals build the mindsets and behaviors needed to perform at the highest level.

My Methodology

As a Jiu Jitsu coach and female empowerment advocate, I’ve developed a unique methodology blending martial arts with personal empowerment, tailored specifically for women. My approach leverages the principles of Jiu-Jitsu to provide women with essential self-defense skills and the confidence to tackle life’s challenges. A crucial part of my teaching is encouraging women to trust and act on their instincts, aiding them in avoiding potentially dangerous situations.

In my training, I emphasize three core lines of defense: mental, emotional, and physical. Women learn to set boundaries and control their responses in stressful situations, integrating The Voice, Posture, and Mindset of the Champion into their practice.

The Voice of the Champion involves using mental and emotional strength to express oneself confidently. The Posture of the Champion is a blend of a physically ready stance and emotional resilience. The Mindset of the Champion combines mental focus and determination with physical agility for effective action.

While the physical aspect, considered a last resort, focuses on escaping or controlling an aggressor, my methodology extends beyond physical techniques. It applies Jiu-Jitsu’s philosophy and principles to daily life, fostering a supportive community where women collaborate and empower each other. This holistic approach transforms how they perceive themselves in the world, equipping them with the tools to navigate life with renewed strength and self-worth.

FOUNDERS OF BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
CESALINA’S FAMILY INFLUENCES

Carlos Gracie, a pioneering figure in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, played a pivotal role in developing the Gracie style of Jiu-Jitsu in Brazil in the early 20th century. His journey in martial arts began as a teenager when he studied traditional Japanese Jiu-Jitsu under the renowned Japanese champion, Mitsuyo Maeda (known in Brazil as Conde Koma – the “Count of Combat”). Carlos, with a keen interest in practical self-defense, adapted the classical techniques learned from Count Koma to suit the realities of “no rules” street fighting prevalent in Brazil at the time.

Carlos was not just a practitioner but also an innovator and a fierce competitor. He rigorously tested and refined his system through countless matches, openly inviting opponents of all sizes, weights, and fighting styles to challenge him. Despite weighing only 135 pounds, his effective style ensured that he remained undefeated, cementing his status as a legend in Brazil.

This legacy of open challenge became a hallmark of the Gracie style of Jiu-Jitsu. Carlos taught his system to his four younger brothers (Oswaldo, Gastão, Jorge, and Helio) and later to his sons. This teaching tradition continued through generations of the Gracie family, extending to brothers, sons, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren. Even after retiring from active competition, Carlos continued to manage the fighting careers of his family members, maintaining the tradition of challenging and demonstrating the superiority of the Gracie style against various martial arts forms globally.

The Gracie family, with Carlos having 21 children and his youngest brother Helio having 7 sons, formed a virtual dynasty of fighters and instructors. They have dominated the world of “no rules” fight contests, consistently proving in open competition against champions from other martial arts that the Gracie style of Jiu-Jitsu is a highly effective fighting art. The effectiveness and popularity of the Gracie style have made it a prominent and influential force in the world of martial arts today.
